Atletico Madrid Moves to Reclaim Rodri from Manchester City
Atletico Madrid has entered the race to sign Spanish midfielder Rodri during the summer transfer window, aiming to bring him back from Manchester City after seven years since his departure from the club.
According to "Fichajes", Atletico Madrid is keen to take advantage of Rodri's refusal to renew his contract, which expires in June 2027, alongside the technical changes at Manchester City following Pep Guardiola's departure and Enzo Maresca taking over the reins.
The report indicates that Rodri is open to the idea of returning to La Liga, having achieved all titles with Manchester City, and recently crowned with the Spanish national team as the 2026 World Cup champion, alongside winning the Best Player award in the tournament.
Diego Simeone has requested the signing of a player to lead Atlético Madrid's midfield next season, as part of a plan to reshape the midfield.
Meanwhile, Manchester City prefers to sell Rodri this summer instead of risking his departure for free at the end of his contract, despite their insistence on receiving a high financial return, given the interest from other European clubs in acquiring him.
The report confirmed that Atletico Madrid is set to make their first official offer in the coming days, while the future of the deal will be determined after the anticipated negotiations between the player's agents and Manchester City management.
