Spanish Players' Union Supports Real Madrid's Request to Postpone Osasuna Match
Monday 07-07-2025
The Spanish Football Players' Union has expressed its support for Real Madrid's request to postpone its match against Osasuna, scheduled for the opening round of the 2025/2026 Spanish league season, set to take place on August 19 at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.

This request came after Real Madrid qualified for the semifinals of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, which concludes on July 13, leaving a very short preparation period before the league starts.

The Spanish newspaper "Mundo Deportivo" reported that the players' union sent a message to the Spanish League, the Spanish Football Federation, and Osasuna, demanding adherence to the implicit agreement previously reached regarding match dates.

The initial agreement stipulated that the league would start on the weekend of August 23 or 24, but an early start on August 16 and 17 was later approved, with the condition that the opening match for either Real Madrid or Atlético Madrid be postponed if either team reached the final stages of the Club World Cup.

The union emphasizes the necessity of granting players a preparatory break of 21 days before the season begins, but Real Madrid's semifinal qualification affects this, as the team will not resume training until at least July 31, leaving only 19 days for preparation.

If the postponement is approved, the match between Real Madrid and Osasuna can be rescheduled to one of three available dates: August 27, October 29, or December 3.
