Valverde: I Was Very Sad in the Past Days, and That's What the Coach Wants from Us
Monday 23-06-2025
Real Madrid player Federico Valverde appeared in press statements after the victory over Pachuca 3-1 in the second round of the group stage of the Club World Cup.

The player said: "I am happy with the team's victory. I try to adapt to what the coach wants. It's a bit different from what I did with Ancelotti as a winger. The bad thing is that we always face obstacles when it comes to executing what the coach wants."

Regarding Ancelotti's game plan: "Every time there is something that disrupts his plan, so we can't do what he wants. The red card today, but we made a huge effort and we have to appreciate that. He changes our style of play; he doesn't want us midfielders to drop back too much to receive the ball; he wants us to push forward. In the second half, he asked us to control the ball more."

He added: "I was very sad during the past few days for not being able to give the team the win with the penalty against Al Hilal. I took it very personally because I wasted all the effort of the team, which is a huge effort. But I criticize myself harshly; I am maturing, and if they want me to take penalties, I will do it."

He concluded: "After several days of personal sadness for not being able to give the team the win, I am happy to contribute with a goal and to be able to provide my energy and work."
