Al-Shorta team succeeded in achieving a deserved victory over Naft Basra with a score of three goals to one, in the match that brought the two teams together on Saturday evening at Al-Fayhaa Stadium, as part of the 36th round of the Iraq Stars League.
Al-Shorta entered the match with clear confidence and control over the course of the game from the start, trying to reach Naft Basra's goal through varied attacks from the flanks and the center, amidst good defensive organization from the opposing team.
Despite repeated attempts, the first goal was delayed until the 36th minute when player Ahmed Yahya capitalized on an organized pass initiated by Hussein Ali after a corner kick that was cleared by Basra's defense. He received it on the edge of the penalty area and passed it to Yahya, who fired a rocket shot from the left side that settled into the right corner, announcing the first goal of the match.
With the start of the second half, Naft Basra showed a desire for a quick comeback, and they succeeded in equalizing in the 47th minute through Hassan Dakhil, after a series of passes between the team’s players, during which they exploited a mistake in passing the ball in the midfield by Al-Shorta. The ball reached Hassan Dakhil, who shot it from the edge of the area to the left of goalkeeper Ahmed Basel.
Only a few minutes passed before Al-Shorta managed to regain their lead, this time through the top scorer Mohannad Ali 'Mimi' in the 58th minute, after an organized play initiated by Mahmoud Al-Mawas from the right side, who sent it into the penalty area where Mimi was in the right place to elegantly place it into the net.
In the 80th minute, Al-Shorta reinforced their lead with a third goal after a smart attacking build-up that started from goalkeeper Ahmed Basel, who passed the ball to Ayoub Bin Masharq, the latter sent a long direct pass to Al-Mawas, who sprinted behind the defense, penetrated, and then confidently scored the ball to the left of the goalkeeper.
Al-Shorta delivered one of their best performances in terms of tactical discipline and variety in creating attacks, with a good showing from the midfield led by Hussein Ali and Ahmed Yahya, in addition to the effectiveness of the flanks through Al-Mawas.
As for Naft Basra, despite their desire to achieve a positive result, defensive errors and a lack of concentration in the final third contributed to their loss, leaving their situation complicated in the relegation zone.
With this victory, Al-Shorta has officially secured their fourth consecutive Iraq Stars League title, raising their points tally to 83, nine points ahead of second-placed Al-Zawraa, thus clinching the league title with two rounds remaining.
