Officially: Luis Castro as Head Coach of Nantes
The French club Nantes announced today the appointment of Portuguese coach Luis Castro as the head coach of the first team, with a contract extending until June 2027, with the option for an additional year.
Castro is 45 years old and began his coaching career in youth teams at several major clubs, most notably Vitoria Guimarães and Al-Nassr, before taking over as coach of the Greek team Panetolikos in 2019.
Castro later returned to Portugal to lead youth teams at Benfica, where he guided the under-19 team to a historic treble in 2022, which included the Portuguese league, the UEFA Youth League, and the Intercontinental Cup, and was subsequently rewarded with the appointment as coach of Benfica's reserve team.
In 2023, he took charge of the French team Dunkirk, where he led them to remain in the second division during his first season, before finishing fourth in the following season and reaching the semi-finals of the French Cup after impressive performances.
Castro is known for his attacking style and ability to develop young players, and he will officially begin his mission with Nantes on June 30, with the club announcing the assistant coaching staff in the coming days.
