Nantes secured a valuable and surprising 3-0 victory over Olympique Marseille, in the battle to avoid relegation in the French league, granting their coach Vahid Halilhodžić his first win with the team after a long series of negative results.

Nantes, ranked seventeenth, raised its hopes of staying up despite the complexity of the task, having entered the match two points behind Auxerre, who are in sixteenth place with an additional game.

The home team clearly dominated the first half, but they were thwarted by the brilliance of Dutch goalkeeper Jeffrey de Lange, who made several crucial saves. Meanwhile, Marseille only managed a few timid attempts through Mason Greenwood and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang without any real effectiveness.

In the second half, Marseille collapsed in less than ten minutes. Ignatius Ganago opened the scoring in the 50th minute after a pass from Mathis Abline, before Rémy Cabella added the second goal four minutes later. Abline then sealed the match with a brilliant third goal after an impressive individual effort in the 58th minute, marking his best performance of the season in a Nantes jersey.

Despite Marseille's attempts to make a comeback, goalkeeper Patrik Carlgren shone by saving several opportunities, most notably from attempts by Amine Gouiri, Greenwood, and Hamid Traore.
