Dembélé: I Became More Professional, and Luis Enrique Created a Team That Doesn't Know How to Falter
Ousmane Dembélé, the winger for Paris Saint-Germain, opened his heart to discuss his professional and personal transformation after leaving Barcelona, praising the significant role that coach Luis Enrique played in his development, during statements to the French magazine "France Football" after an exceptional season in which he was crowned with a historic treble with the capital club.
Dembélé said: "I have become more professional now; I was professional before, but now I am more committed. Even on rest days, I like to go to training, I work with physiotherapists, and I take more care of my body."
Regarding his previous lifestyle, Dembélé admitted: "In the past, I would go home and spend my time playing basketball on the PlayStation and watching TV. I was younger, and that is normal, but you pay the price later, and I saw that clearly during my time at Barcelona."
He continued his remarks praising his current coach: "With a coach like Luis Enrique, you know exactly that if you don't defend, your place will be on the bench. For me, a forward should not falter; they should always contribute to both attack and defense."
He added: "Thanks to this system, Paris Saint-Germain became champions of Europe. We all defend, and we all attack; Luis Enrique built a strong group, and no one is above the team."
Regarding the Ballon d'Or race, Dembélé referred to his former teammate at Barcelona, Lamine Yamal, saying: "Lamine was someone everyone talked about in Barcelona since he was young, and when he joined the first team, we understood why. He is an exceptional player; in training, he dribbles, creates goals, and scores."
The French star concluded his remarks by saying: "Lamine has reached a very high level right now, which makes him a strong candidate for major awards, like the Ballon d'Or."
