Ronaldo: We Want to Win the Title, This is My Opinion on Yamal
Saturday 07-06-2025
Portuguese national team star Cristiano Ronaldo appeared at a press conference to talk about tomorrow's match against Spain in the UEFA Nations League final.

Ronaldo said: "I miss lifting trophies, but it's part of life; you can't win all the time. This is football; there are times when we are likely to win many things, and there are years when we don't win any collective titles. This is part of football; you can't always win, but we have one last chance, which is tomorrow, and I am confident that things will go well and that Portugal will lift the cup. It’s a tough match, but it’s possible."

He added: "Lamine Yamal is doing well and utilizing his talent. Let this young man grow; don't overload him too much. Let him be and grow well, and ease the pressure on him. He doesn't lack talent. My advice to Yamal? I advise those who want my advice privately, not in front of everyone."

He clarified: "Is tomorrow's match between Cristiano and Yamal? It has always been like that; whenever I played football, the decisive matches were always between Cristiano and another player. This doesn't worry me; they are two completely different generations, one starting and another ending, and that’s my case. They should rely on Lamine against Vitinha, for example, but no problem; if they want to do that with Cristiano, I will take responsibility. In reality, it’s not that way; tomorrow's match is between 11 players against 11 players, but I understand that the media heats up the match, but that’s natural and beautiful. What I hope for more is that Portugal is in good shape and that we win."

Regarding his retirement: "My mentality is to live day by day. I don’t have many years left to play... but I enjoy the moment; no specific day has been set for my retirement. I feel happy, and I am here to enjoy and continue until the day I love it."

He continued about Lionel Messi: "Of course, I have a fondness for Leo Messi. We have been on stage together for 15 years. I remember translating for him in English at events because he didn't speak it well. He always treated me kindly and respected me."

On the Ballon d'Or: "I can't choose just one player, but there are many candidates: Lamine Yamal, Kylian Mbappe, Ousmane Dembele, Vitinha... For me, the one who wins the Ballon d'Or should be a player who has won the Champions League. I think this award has lost its value; you don’t know what happens behind the scenes."

He concluded: "The Spanish national team is always one of the best teams. They have great players like Pedri and Nico Williams... As I said, Spain is a very strong and tough opponent. I have played against them many times, and matches against them are always enjoyable."
