Officially: Los Angeles Secures Last Qualification Ticket for the Club World Cup
Sunday 01-06-2025
Los Angeles FC has secured the last qualification ticket to the 2025 Club World Cup, set to take place in the United States in mid-June, following their victory over Club América in a playoff match.

Los Angeles' qualification came after a match that extended to 120 minutes, with the original time ending in a 1-1 draw, before the American team clinched the game in extra time with a score of 2-1.

The match saw Club América take the lead first with a goal from Brian Rodriguez in the 64th minute, before Igor Jesus equalized for Los Angeles in the 89th minute, and then Denis Bouanga scored the winning goal in the 115th minute, leading his team to the Club World Cup.

This matchup was held at the decision of FIFA to determine the replacement for Mexican club León, which was excluded from the tournament due to its owner's ownership of Pachuca as well, violating FIFA regulations that prevent two clubs owned by the same person from participating in the same tournament.

With this qualification, Los Angeles joins Group D in the Club World Cup, which includes Chelsea from England, Espérance Sportive de Tunis, and Flamengo from Brazil, taking León's place.

Los Angeles is the second American club participating in the tournament alongside Inter Miami, the representative of the host country.
