Modric: I Never Wished for This Moment, and I Lived a Wonderful Period
Luka Modric, the star midfielder of Real Madrid, spoke to the royal team's fans at his farewell ceremony after the match against Sociedad, at the end of the Spanish league, at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.
The player said: "The moment I never wished for has arrived. It has been a long journey, but a wonderful one. I would like to thank the club and president Florentino Perez. I also want to thank all the coaches over the years, my teammates who supported me on this journey, and everyone who helped me throughout this time. Thank you very much from the bottom of my heart. I would also like to thank my family; without them, none of this would have been possible."
He added: "We have won a lot, and it has been a wonderful period. I have won many titles, but the greatest is the affection and love you have given me throughout these years. I cannot find words to express my gratitude for everything you have done for me over the years. I would like to say a phrase I saw and really liked: 'Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.' Hala Madrid, and nothing else!"
Modric was escorted to the top by the team and took an unforgettable honorary tour around the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, accompanied by his partner, three children, and teammates. Before leaving the stadium, he immortalized that moment with a family photo and walked with Ancelotti, arms linked, to the center of the pitch. There, the Bernabeu Stadium welcomed them with cheers dedicated to two of its legends.
