Ancelotti: Alonso Will Coach Real Madrid, and I Won't Hide My Tears Tomorrow
Friday 23-05-2025
Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti appeared at a press conference, his last as the coach of the royal team, to talk about tomorrow's match against Real Sociedad, in the conclusion of the Spanish league.

The coach said: "These are special days. It’s my last match, and there are always a lot of emotions when a stage or a career comes to an end. That’s what’s happening with me these days, but I’m not sad at all. I’m happy that an impressive stage in my career is coming to an end."

He added: "I have done everything I can for this club. Sooner or later, this day had to come, and I would like to thank everyone who worked with me. I have had a wonderful time throughout this period. I received a lot of love and a lot of help. I have coached amazing players. This long period is coming to an end, and it has ended well and with complete agreement with the club; I have never had a dispute with my president, and it was not supposed to happen on my last day."

He continued: "I am proud of the opportunity to coach this club and to enter its history. There was no other way to say goodbye than with the affection I have for the club and the affection the club has for me. Now, a new era begins with the same enthusiasm and desire that prevailed when I first arrived here, both times. It has been a successful period, in which we achieved many victories. Among my other achievements is holding more than 700 press conferences with you. Your questions haven’t always been enjoyable."

He added: "The farewell will be very beautiful. These are emotional days, and I have talked with the players and those who have worked with me over the years. I have a good relationship with them, and we have created a good working environment thanks to everyone’s efforts. I am easily moved, like my grandfather and father. Tomorrow will be emotional, and if I cry, I won’t hide it; no problem. I share this beautiful day with Luka Modric, who has been a legend, a great player, and a wonderful supporter. His farewell is very beautiful."

Regarding Xabi Alonso taking over the team: "I wish him all the best; he is a coach who has all the qualities to lead this club. Enjoy that."

He went on: "Your best night at the Bernabeu? Wow, there have been many! It’s very difficult to choose one, but I will choose the remontada, because those are things that have not been explained yet, the matches against Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester City, and Chelsea. They will remain, forever, unforgettable nights."

He stated: "I am very excited that I had the opportunity not to betray Real Madrid with another club and escaped coaching the national team with the greatest history, the five-time champion. It’s a big challenge, but I love being able to prepare for the World Cup with Brazil."

Regarding the possibility of returning to Real Madrid after his time with Brazil: "These are things I don’t know (smiles). I don’t feel the desire to coach another club, or I haven’t felt that, after Real Madrid. This is what I said, and I am sticking to it. In the future... I don’t know; what matters is that Real Madrid achieves good results."

Regarding his change as a coach: "I have changed, I have changed. And I realized that if I didn’t adapt, I wouldn’t win the Champions League again. But in this second phase, my young coaching staff has helped me, enthusiastic and eager to learn; game preparation has become more analytical than before, there are many aspects that weren’t taken into account 20 years ago, but I had a coaching staff, as I said, that gave me the enthusiasm to develop. I am different from 1995 and 2013."

He noted: "Are you regretting any decision you made over the past years? No, no (laughs). I know I made many mistakes, many of them; but since I made many, I can’t tell you which one affected me the most. But nothing made me unable to sleep at night."

He continued: "How do you want people to remember you? I can be judged by my work, no problem. But I am not a coach; I am a person doing the work of a coach. There will be those who think better or worse of my work, and that’s fine. But I don’t want to be remembered as a bad person."

He concluded: "The end of an era? Perhaps you think that the golden generation is coming to an end with Modric, despite Carvajal's absence, but this generation, like everything, must end at some point; many have left: Casemiro, Cristiano Ronaldo, Ramos, and Benzema... but Real Madrid continues, as it will continue to be, the best club in the world."
