Younis Mahmoud: Emad Mohammed is the closest to coaching the Olympic team, with Hakim Shakir as a competitor
The second deputy president of the Iraqi Football Association, Younis Mahmoud, confirmed that coach Emad Mohammed is one of the top candidates to take over the coaching of the Olympic team in the upcoming period, due to his logical progression and continuous work with age-level teams, especially after his recent experience with the youth team.
Mahmoud stated in an official statement to the official agency, which was followed by the 964 network, that "Emad Mohammed's continuity in coaching national teams and his progression through age categories gives him a clear advantage and priority in taking on the coaching responsibilities of the Olympic team," pointing out that coach Hakim Shakir is also a strong competitor, considering his extensive previous experience with Iraqi teams and his successes that are credited to him at various stages.
He added: "There are other names worthy of attention such as Luay Salah, Ahmed Salah, and Razak Farhan, all of whom possess the technical competence and the ability to provide the desired addition, but the final decision will remain in the hands of the national teams committee, which represents the official body authorized to choose the most suitable name to lead the Olympic team."
Younis Mahmoud also emphasized the necessity of granting complete freedom to the members of the executive office to make the best decision away from pressures, stating: "In the end, we have between 100 to 150 coaches within the national teams system, but only one coach will be selected, so this requires careful study by the national teams committee to make a decision that serves the interests of the team and meets the aspirations of the Iraqi fans."
