Tottenham Wins Europa League Under Ange Postecoglou
Tottenham Hotspur coach Ange Postecoglou appeared in press statements after winning the Europa League title against Manchester United (1-0).
The coach said: "I am still processing everything. I know what this means for the club. The longer this situation lasts, the harder it is to break this curse."
He added: "I feel the tension among everyone at the club, and until you shake off that feeling, you will never understand what it means. We have a young group, and I hope the players, by tasting this feeling, will feel differently about themselves, and what this means to them is unbelievable."
He emphasized: "I have always felt that knockout matches are different from league matches, and when you are in this situation, it depends on good organization, having a realistic game plan, and crucial moments of play, and you can minimize those moments by building a solid foundation."
He continued: "I felt it would be very difficult to defeat us. We could have been better in transitional phases, but I felt relieved that if we took the lead, we would be able to handle most of the challenges Manchester United would throw at us."
Regarding his statement last September when he said he always wins titles in his second season: "People misunderstood me. I wasn’t boasting, I was declaring it, and I believed it. That feeling was within me more than anything else."
He concluded: "I know our performance in the league was unacceptable, but finishing third won’t change this club; winning the cup will change it. That was my ambition, and I was ready to wear it if it didn’t happen. People kept reminding me of that because we were close to the title, but I am happy with that."
