Postecoglou: I hope to win the Europa League for Son
Angie Postecoglou, the head coach of Tottenham Hotspur, confirmed that he is aiming to win the Europa League title this season, sending a special message to the team's South Korean star Son, and noting that he has not discussed the future of the coaching staff with the players at this time.
Tottenham is preparing to face Manchester United on Wednesday evening in the Europa League final, a crucial match for both sides.
Postecoglou said: "Is this my penultimate match? That doesn’t really matter, what matters is the current opportunity, and its importance to me and the club."
He added: "We have the chance to present something special for Tottenham and its fans and everyone who works hard within this club."
He continued: "What happens after the final does not change the significance of this moment, I am very confident that I will continue to strive for titles, whether here or anywhere else."
He went on: "Son is an exceptional player, not many have come from Asia and succeeded in staying at this level in the Premier League for a long time, it would be wonderful to crown his career with a major title like the Europa League."
Regarding his potential future with the team, Postecoglou said: "I haven’t talked to the players about my future, because I don’t think that would be helpful at this stage, from day one I told them, nothing is guaranteed in life or in sports, and you must seize every opportunity that comes your way."
He noted: "I have been in similar situations before, and the final was my last match as a coach, it’s not new to me."
He concluded his statements by saying: "I don’t think my mission here is over, winning the cup could accelerate the team's development, but there is still much work and challenges ahead, which have been well documented this season."
