Xabi Alonso Calls for Real Madrid to Renew Modric's Contract
Monday 19-05-2025
Real Madrid is nearing an agreement with veteran midfielder Luka Modric to renew his contract for an additional season, following a direct intervention from the anticipated coach, Xabi Alonso, who urged the club's management to keep the Croatian captain.

Modric's contract, at 39 years old, expires next June, but Radio Marca revealed that Alonso emphasized the importance of the player's continued presence in the team, given his leadership role on the pitch and his positive influence on the younger players.

Despite the club's policy of annual renewals for players over 30, the management has shown a willingness to extend Modric's contract for another season, provided that his salary is significantly reduced, which is the point currently under negotiation.

This season, Modric has had a strong participation, despite expectations of a decline in his role with the rise of names like Bellingham, Tchouaméni, and Camavinga, as he has played 55 matches, totaling 2,757 minutes, scoring 4 goals and providing 9 assists, reflecting the coaching staff's confidence in his abilities.

If an agreement is reached, Modric will enter his thirteenth season with Real Madrid since joining the team in the summer of 2012 from Tottenham.
