Argentinian star Angel Di Maria, player of Benfica, has officially announced his departure from the team after his contract ended and no agreement was reached regarding renewal.

Di Maria published an emotional farewell message on his Instagram account, stating: "This is not the ending we wanted in the championship; we put in a lot of effort to achieve victory. This was my last appearance in the league wearing the Benfica jersey, and I feel proud of what I contributed to the team."

Benfica failed to win the Portuguese league title this season after drawing in the final round against Sporting Braga, allowing Sporting Lisbon to claim the title.

Despite Benfica management's desire to renew Di Maria's contract for an additional season, negotiations were unsuccessful, prompting the player to seek a new experience after the season ends.

Di Maria is expected to participate with Benfica in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, which will take place next June, before officially leaving the team.

It is worth noting that Di Maria joined Benfica in the summer of 2023 on a free transfer, and during his time with the team, he played 87 matches in various competitions, scoring 32 goals and providing 25 assists, contributing directly to 57 goals.
