Kovac: I Refuse to Overcelebrate Qualification for the Champions League
Saturday 17-05-2025
Niko Kovac, the head coach of Borussia Dortmund, expressed his great happiness at his team's qualification for the Champions League after achieving a series of consecutive victories that concluded the season perfectly for the German team, which had struggled in earlier periods of the league.

Kovac said after the 3-0 victory over Holstein Kiel in the 34th round of the Bundesliga: "What we did in the last few weeks was amazing. We had to clarify to ourselves and to everyone what we wanted from each match, as the players did not have this mentality at the beginning of the season."

He added: "I know well the quality of the great players, and I had to work on strengthening their positive mentality, and that is what happened, but we should not overcelebrate, because we finished the season in fourth place only, which is the minimum expectation for this club."

He continued: "Winning the last five matches showed our discipline and desire, especially since the task was not easy at all as we came from 11th place."

He added: "I am grateful to my assistants, to the players, and to the fans who supported us; this achievement would not have happened without them. It is great to receive praise, but I did not achieve this alone."

The coach concluded his remarks by saying: "My daughter asked me not to change the jacket I wore recently, saying it brings luck, and indeed, I listened to her because we were winning every time."
