Real Madrid Approaches Deal for Carreras
Real Madrid is nearing the completion of the transfer deal for Spanish left-back Álvaro Carreras, a player from Benfica, to strengthen their defense ahead of the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup in the United States next summer, according to the Spanish newspaper "AS".
The newspaper clarified that the deal is 90% complete, despite complications arising from a clause that allows Manchester United to reclaim the player for 18 million euros. The proposed plan involves United activating this clause and then reselling Carreras to Real Madrid for between 30 to 35 million euros, making it a profitable transaction for both parties.
Although Benfica will let the player go for just 18 million, they will still make a profit, having signed him for only 6 million euros.
Carreras is considered the last piece awaited in the project to rebuild the defense, which the club promised to their incoming coach Xabi Alonso, alongside Joisin and Alexander Arnold. The Spanish left-back is expected to be a key player in Real Madrid's lineup during the FIFA Club World Cup.
