The Egyptian star Mustafa Mohamed has sparked a new crisis within the French club Nantes, after he decided to miss his team's upcoming match against Montpellier, in the final round of the French league for the 2024/2025 season, due to his refusal to participate in the annual event supporting homosexuality organized by the league.

According to reports, the player missed the team's training session on Thursday morning, while coach Antoine Kombouaré stated that Mustafa is suffering from a muscle injury, but his statements appeared confused, which increased doubts about the reason for his absence.

Meanwhile, RMC Sport confirmed that the reason for his absence is the player's refusal to participate in the match due to its support for homosexuality, a stance he has repeated for the third consecutive season, having made the same decision in the 2022/2023 seasons.

Nantes management had imposed a financial penalty on the player the first time he refused to play, but it did not affect his stance, opening the door for a new escalation from the club or the French league association.

Mustafa Mohamed's absence comes at a very sensitive time, as Nantes is struggling to stay in the top league, currently sitting in fifteenth place with 33 points, just two points ahead of Le Havre in sixteenth place, which could face a relegation playoff.
