Carreras, who is 21 years old, previously played in the youth ranks of Real Madrid before moving to Manchester United, and then to Benfica, where he has excelled and become one of the best defenders in the Portuguese league, particularly shining against Barcelona and Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.

According to reports from the Spanish newspaper "AS", Real Madrid is looking to take advantage of the buy-back clause in his contract with Manchester United to negotiate later with Benfica for a fee lower than the required 50 million euros.

This move comes after Ferland Mendy's decline in performance and ongoing doubts about Fran Garcia, prompting the club to search for a distinguished attacking full-back like Carreras, who combines physical strength, speed, and accurate passing, though he still needs to improve some defensive aspects.

Despite his agent's earlier announcement of happiness at Benfica, some media reports have revealed that the player rejected the first renewal offers, which increases the likelihood of his departure this summer.
