Ranieri: I Will Miss the Stadio Olimpico When It's Full of Fans
The derby of the Italian capital between Roma and Lazio ended in a positive draw with a score of 1/1, in a match held at the Stadio Olimpico as part of the Italian league.
In statements after the match, Claudio Ranieri, the head coach of AS Roma, expressed his feelings of dissatisfaction with his team's performance: "We were retreating too much, even though we set up the wings specifically to pressure them and create spaces, but we always returned to the defenders, and I didn't like that."
He added: "It was a tense derby, and Lazio had more chances, but in the end, I accept the draw."
He continued: "Soleil, when he breaks from the side, can lead Roma by himself, but we couldn't get the ball to him as we used to, so Lazio was able to mark him closely."
He went on: "He has great skills and knows the way to the goal well; the future is ahead of him because he has everything to explode as a big star."
Regarding Dybala and Shomurodov, he said: "Dybala has always been a leader on the pitch and in the locker room, and now he has become a leader only in the locker room, but he is still with us daily."
He continued: "As for Shomurodov, when I start with the two forwards, I can't make substitutions later; this is the only obstacle before the matches. When Shomurodov comes in, he is very influential and gives the team confidence, as well as reassurance to De Jong."
About playing his last derby as a coach, he said: "I thought about it being my last derby with Roma before and after the match, but not during the game. I am a person of few words, and what I feel I keep to myself."
He concluded his remarks by saying: "What I will miss the most is entering the Stadio Olimpico when it is full of fans; this scene gives you a lot of energy and motivation and increases your desire to give everything you have."
