Czesny Approaches Historic Record with Barcelona
Sunday 13-04-2025
Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny is experiencing an exceptional moment with Barcelona, having become one of the key elements of success for the team since coach Hans Flick decided to give him the opportunity to protect the goal instead of Iñaki Peña.

Szczęsny has played 22 matches with Barcelona so far, achieving 19 victories and only 3 draws, without any losses. If he remains unbeaten against Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday, he will equal the legendary Johan Cruyff's record for the third longest unbeaten streak for a player at the start of his career with the club, standing at 23 matches.

Cesc Fàbregas tops the list with 30 matches, followed by Paulinho with 25 matches.

Flick's decision was controversial at the time, but the results have proven its success, as the Polish goalkeeper has instilled confidence in the team's defense, excelling in aerial balls, his ability to play with his feet, and his leadership personality which has positively impacted the defensive system.

Szczęsny has kept a clean sheet in 11 matches, most notably against Benfica in the Champions League, where he saved nine crucial shots despite the team playing with a numerical disadvantage after Koubarsi's red card.

With Marc-André ter Stegen's return from injury approaching, Flick will face a difficult decision, especially since the German goalkeeper holds a significant status as a leader and has a distinguished history, but it is clear that Szczęsny has done enough to secure his starting position.
