Vitinha: We Still Have Work to Do, Qualification is Not Yet Secured
Vitinha, the Paris Saint-Germain midfielder, confirmed that the team still needs to focus and remain cautious despite their significant 3-1 victory over Aston Villa in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals, pointing out that qualification for the semi-finals is not secured yet and they must prepare well for the return match.
Vitinha said: "We played well and achieved a deserved result, but as usual, it’s not over yet. There’s a second match, and we must be ready for it. Today's win was good, but it means nothing if we are not prepared for the next game."
Regarding the goal that Aston Villa scored early in the match, Vitinha said: "This is not the first time we’ve faced this. We know that such things can happen, but we responded well. This is the strength of the team; we must take advantage of this positive dynamic."
Concerning the team’s chances of qualification, he stated: "It’s still a long way off. The Champions League is a very tough competition. We will be ready for the return match and will deliver a strong performance there."
Regarding the remarkable goals scored by both Doi and Kvaratskhelia, Vitinha expressed his happiness, saying: "Both goals were fantastic, and our joy is immense for both Doi and Kvaratskhelia. They were amazing goals and deserve all the praise."
Vitinha also spoke about the third goal scored by the team in the final moments by Nuno Mendes, stating: "This goal is always important. I don’t think it will change much, but it’s always important. We felt that Aston Villa was trying to maintain the 2-1 result, but we managed to score the third goal."
