Tuesday 08-04-2025
Hans Flick, the head coach of FC Barcelona, spoke at a press conference before the highly anticipated match against Borussia Dortmund in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals, which will take place at the Montjuïc Stadium tomorrow evening, Wednesday.

Flick said: "Everyone wants to progress to the next round, and we aspire to succeed and play exceptionally. Dortmund is a strong team with high confidence; they have a distinctive attacking style of play, but we must prove that we can adapt to this style and showcase our attacking strength."

Flick spoke about Raphinha and clarified: "After the international break, we gave him some time to regain his fitness. He is now ready to participate in the upcoming match, and we are confident in his readiness."

Flick confirmed that Barcelona prefers to play at home, stating: "Yes, playing at our stadium helps us perform better. We want to secure the match in our favor as soon as possible, and we hope to achieve this goal as we did against Atlético Madrid."

Regarding his knowledge of Dortmund's coach, Niko Kovac, Flick said: "We are well-prepared for this match and know Dortmund's strengths. Niko Kovac is an excellent coach, and I have a lot of respect for him, but ultimately, our focus is entirely on how to prepare our team."

Flick responded to a question about the concern of everyone expecting Barcelona to qualify, saying: "I don't feel anxious about that. We must be realistic and respect the work we have done. We know that reaching this stage is the result of hard work, and we are committed to maintaining the same level."

Flick emphasized the importance of good preparation, saying: "We focus on each match individually. We have a busy schedule, but we can handle it thanks to the diversity in our lineup and our ability to manage fatigue."

Regarding Dortmund's absences, especially in defense, Flick said: "Dortmund is a very strong team even with absences. Niko Kovac has ready alternatives to compensate for these absences."

On the matter of Dani Olmo, Flick confirmed: "We are focused on the important match against Borussia Dortmund; other issues are being handled by the club, and I am not focusing on them at the moment."

Regarding the reason for the long training session, he said: "We are keen on good preparation for every detail. After two days of rest, it was important to review previous matches and analyze our playing style as well as that of our opponent. These matters take more time because we focus on important details for tomorrow's match."

On the Champions League, Flick said: "Statistics are not important to me; what matters is the present, and we strive for success in this tournament because it represents the biggest challenge in Europe."

Flick concluded his statements by noting that Dortmund has become more confident after their recent results, saying: "Dortmund has shown a very strong performance in recent matches, and this confidence has helped them execute their playing style more clearly."
