Newcastle Coach: This is What We Wanted, and I Am Very Touched
Sunday 16-03-2025
Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe made statements to the press after winning the English League Cup against Liverpool 2-1.

The coach said: "I am very touched, and I have been all day, and this is not strange for me. We knew what awaited our fans today, we wanted to make them proud and win the title."

He added: "I am very happy with the result and the performance - we deserved to win today."

He continued: "It was tough when Liverpool scored in the last moments; I was thinking about extra time, as we always make things difficult for ourselves."

He emphasized: "We were well aware of our history, and we wanted to make the club proud. We wanted to score, we wanted to deliver a great performance, we wanted to win; we are opening new horizons, and I think we were fantastic today."

He noted: "We trained steadily for two weeks on set pieces just for this match, and if you had seen us in training, you would have said we had no chance."

He continued: "We couldn't believe that Dan Burn scored - he didn't train like that! He was a great player for us, I want to enjoy the match first. I always think about tomorrow, but I will put the training book aside for a few days."

He added: "Both teams were very direct, and we dealt with that very well. No one wanted to make a mistake; the performance wasn't great, but we were effective in both penalty areas."

He concluded: "We didn't want to show our capabilities when we played against them a few weeks ago; we still wanted to win that match, but we did it in a different way."
