Slot: We Were Unlucky, and Here's What We Need to Do

Liverpool's coach Arne Slot appeared in a press statement after being eliminated from the Round of 16 of the Champions League on penalties against Paris Saint-Germain after a 1-1 aggregate draw.

The coach said: "It was the best football match I have ever participated in. Amazing performance, especially compared to last week. In the first 20/25 minutes, we completely dominated them, creating chance after chance, and suddenly we were down 1-0. Perhaps it was the opposite of what we expected; maybe we were just unlucky because the goal difference was very slight tonight.

He added: "After 90 minutes, I felt we deserved more than just being down 1-0; I was waiting for our goal. I don't think that in the second half, except for the last five minutes, they threatened us once or twice. We played a perfect match except for scoring goals, and it was the same for Paris Saint-Germain last week when they played a perfect match and didn't score, and that's what happened to us today.

He continued: "It's always tough when you put in so much effort. In the first 25 minutes, I had never seen them so aggressive and enthusiastic as they were today, then you look at the scoreboard and find yourself down 1-0, which was also an unfortunate goal. When you put in all that effort, it can be tough sometimes, and in the end, it comes down to penalties, and we, as Dutch, know how to lose on penalties.

He added: "The match was filled with everything you wish for in football. From Liverpool's perspective, I at least hoped for a draw after 90 minutes, but it ended in penalties.

He emphasized: "It is unfair to be eliminated at this stage; we finished the first round at the top, then face a team like Paris Saint-Germain, but that's also the beautiful side of football. Everyone around the world enjoyed watching this match, and the points difference is minimal, and if you want to win, you need a bit of luck; we had luck last week, and I don't think we had luck today.

He concluded: "Now it is clear what we need to do for the rest of the season; we have the League Cup final and nine remaining matches in the Premier League."
