Bayer Leverkusen has officially announced that their German star, Florian Wirtz, has suffered a tear in the internal ligament of his ankle, which will lead to him being sidelined for several weeks. The player sustained the injury during his team's match against Werder Bremen last Saturday.

In official statements, Simon Rolfes, the sporting director of Bayer Leverkusen, said: "Florian's absence at this critical stage of the season is a significant loss, but we have a strong team capable of compensating for him."

He added: "We know Wirtz's determination well, and we understand that he will return quickly; everyone will support him, and we expect him to be in top form during the final stage of the season."

Wirtz's injury comes ahead of the anticipated match against Bayern Munich in the second leg of the Round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League, which will take place on Tuesday, March 11, 2025. The player had missed the first leg due to suspension, which ended in a 3-0 victory for the Bavarian team.
