Al-Thawadi: It is impossible for Saudi Arabia to win the 26th Gulf title
Former Bahraini coach Riyad Al-Thawadi believes that it is impossible for the Saudi national team to win the Arabian Gulf Cup title "Gulf 26".
The Arabian Gulf Cup competitions begin today, Saturday.
Al-Thawadi said on the “The Ninth Team” program on the “Abu Dhabi Sports” channel: “The Gulf teams are not doing well, given their results during the last period, and the best of the bad teams will win the Gulf Championship.”
He continued: “Nominating the Saudi national team to win the title is completely illogical, as Saudi football is declining frighteningly, and attention is focused on the league and not the national team.”
He added: "The Saudi national team currently has no identity or personality, and history does not give its owner an advantage. Al-Akhdar was unable to win against Indonesia in the World Cup qualifiers."
He concluded: “It is impossible for the Saudi team to win this tournament, and I feel that it is afraid of the tournament that it has not achieved for more than two decades.”
