FIFA Reverses Decision Before World Cup Kick-off
The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) has reversed its previous decision to ban fans from bringing water bottles into the stands of the 2026 World Cup, as part of new organizational measures related to the safety and security of attendees.
FIFA stated in an official statement on Saturday: "Fans are now allowed to enter stadiums with a sealed plastic bottle with a maximum capacity of 590 ml for the 2026 World Cup."
It added: "Hard bottles remain prohibited for security reasons."
FIFA had previously announced a ban on fans bringing their own water bottles to tournament matches, aiming to enhance safety measures within the stadiums and prevent any potential risks that might arise from the use of bottles in the stands.
The International Federation of Association Football had confirmed that its primary goal is to ensure: "the safety of players, referees, fans, and organizing staff."
