Southgate: We tried to win the match, and we have to build on what we presented

England national team coach Gareth Southgate appeared in press statements, after the 0-0 draw against Slovenia at the end of the group stage of Euro 2024.

The coach said: “I think "We have improved a lot with the ball. We have created some good chances and at the moment it is hard work for us. We are not getting that break in front of goal. I think the players who participated did well, and I understand the reactions, but the atmosphere is difficult." p>

He added: “We tried to win the game with the changes we made. We put attacking players on the field. Anthony Gordon, Cole Palmer and Kobe Maino did good things for us. It was a good move.” Really and we have to build on that.”

On Cole Palmer’s impact after coming on as a substitute: “He performed very well. He found space well and created chances and we supported him to score in the end “They are young players and we are pushing them in a difficult environment and they have had a good impact on the team.”

He continued: “Tonight we relied on Conor Gallagher, who is pressing well and we did that. Better then we felt that Kobe Maino’s control of the ball would help us. I don’t think we were waiting to win by three or four-nil.”

He concluded: “We have to play well. “And whichever team we face will be a really difficult match. A lot of things are starting to improve. We faced a lot of problems before the tournament. I think the way the defense played was very positive and we had to build on it.”
