Marotta confirms Icardi's future and Dimarco's contract renewal with Inter
Giuseppe Marotta, the president of Inter, has clarified the club's position regarding the potential return of former striker Mauro Icardi. He also revealed the management's stance on signing a fifth forward during the upcoming transfer window, while confirming the extension of Federico Dimarco's contract until 2028.
Marotta spoke in an interview with Sky Sport ahead of the match against Feyenoord in the UEFA Champions League, where he addressed the repercussions of the loss to Milan in the derby, emphasizing the strength of the relationship within the team and the absence of disagreements or crises among the players.
Marotta said: "This is a group that is in very good health, and I use this expression specifically because there are no bad elements within the team. It is natural to win and lose, but there is a statistic worth reflecting on, which is that we have lost only three times in the last 40 matches in Serie A, and all three defeats were against Milan."
He added that communication between coach Christian Kivu and the players is ongoing on a daily basis, confirming that the team has benefited from its previous experiences and aspires to compete once again for the UEFA Champions League title, despite the difficulty of the task and the strength of the opponents.
In the contract renewal file, Inter's president confirmed the activation of the clause to extend Federico Dimarco's contract for an additional year, making him continue with the team until June 2028. He clarified that the decision was made in agreement with the player, who expressed his desire to continue his career wearing the club's shirt.
He said: "Regarding Federico, whom I can consider a true Interista, we have activated the contract extension clause for one year until 2028, in agreement with him. During this year, we will have the opportunity to extend the contract again, as he has shown his desire to continue his professional experience with the Inter shirt, which is something we also want."
Regarding the future of Hakan Çalhanoğlu and Carlos Augusto, Marotta clarified that Çalhanoğlu is the only player whose contract is currently expiring, noting that the relationship between the two parties is excellent, and there is no concern regarding the renewal situation.
Regarding the possibility of Mauro Icardi's return, who has been linked with a move back to Inter, Marotta clarified that the club has not received any offer from the player or his representatives, confirming that the Argentine forward is not part of the management's plans, just as there is no intention to sign a fifth striker.
He said: "I don't know if Icardi has offered himself to us, but he is certainly a player who has done a lot for Inter, however, he is not part of our plans, just like the idea of signing a new striker."
Marotta justified the club's position by stating that the team has four forwards, considering that the absence of three of them at the same time was merely an exceptional circumstance and not evidence of a lack of attacking options.
He concluded his statements by praising the work of coach Christian Kivu, confirming that the team does not have a scoring problem, as they sit in second place among the teams with the most goals scored in Italy behind AS Roma. He also praised the coach's ability to utilize the players and develop the team's attacking performance.
