João Félix finds football paradise at Al-Nassr
Portuguese star João Félix has found the perfect environment to regain his sparkle with Al-Nassr, becoming one of the team's standout players. He has delivered impressive scoring performances since his move to the Saudi Pro League in the summer of 2025, following European experiences where he was unable to meet the high expectations that accompanied his beginnings with SL Benfica.
João Félix had his last European experience with AC Milan, on loan from Chelsea, under the management of his compatriot Sérgio Conceição, who gave him the role of playmaker and tried to utilize his attacking abilities optimally. However, he was unable to deliver the expected level consistently, leading to his return to Chelsea before moving to Al-Nassr.
In his first season in Saudi Arabia, he had a remarkable scoring explosion, scoring 26 goals and providing 19 assists in 47 matches, totaling 45 goal contributions. This helped Al Nassr secure the Saudi Pro League title, marking Cristiano Ronaldo's first league championship with the club. He also won the Player of the Season award and participated with Portugal in the FIFA World Cup 2026.
The player continues to shine this season, having scored 5 goals and provided 8 assists in 13 matches, after delivering four key passes in the recent match against Al-Kholood, which ended with his team winning 5-3.
A report from the Spanish newspaper "Sport" suggests that the football environment in Saudi Arabia has helped showcase the best of João Félix, after he has shed some aspects that limited his impact on European pitches, primarily the demands of defensive pressing, tracking back, and physical duels, which had drawn criticism during his previous experiences.
The player now has more space and time to move between the lines, retain the ball, and create chances, due to the reduced pressure he faces compared to European levels. Additionally, losing the ball does not expose his team to the same level of danger as it did against opponents in the major leagues.
Thus, João Félix has transformed into a dominant and decisive player for Al-Nassr, benefiting from his technical abilities, great skills, and distinctive right foot, after finding an environment that allows him to focus on his attacking strengths without exposing his previous flaws to the same extent.
At just 26 years old, the question remains about the possibility of his return to European pitches for another attempt to prove his ability to perform at the highest levels of competition.
