Haissem Hassan discusses his goal drought and confirms he is close to scoring with Celtic
Egyptian Haissem Hassan has spoken about the longest goal drought in his career, having gone 71 consecutive matches without scoring. He expressed his eagerness to end this scoring absence and open his account with his team Celtic before facing Falkirk today, Sunday, in the Scottish league.
The last goal scored by the Egyptian winger dates back to May 3, 2025, when he found the net against Huesca while wearing the shirt of Real Oviedo, in a match that ended with his former team winning 2-1, in the Spanish Segunda División.
Since then, Haissem Hassan has not succeeded in scoring, whether during his time with Real Oviedo or after his transfer to Celtic, as well as with the Egyptian national team, turning his goal drought into a focal point with the start of his experience in Scottish football.
In statements reported by British newspaper 'The Sun', the player admitted his need to improve his attacking numbers, confirming that increasing his tally of goals and assists represents a primary objective for him in the upcoming period.
Haissem Hassan said: "In terms of attacking, I need to improve my numbers regarding goals and assists, and I am very excited to score my first goal with Celtic. I feel that this goal is very close now."
The Egyptian winger indicated that he came close to scoring during the last match, which boosted his confidence in the possibility of ending his goal drought soon, especially after providing three assists since joining the Scottish team.
He also touched on the competition within Celtic, explaining that having a distinguished group of wingers raises the level of challenge among players and provides everyone with an additional incentive to improve their performance and compete for a place in the starting lineup.
Celtic prepare to face Falkirk in the 12th round of the Scottish league, aiming to continue their positive results and maintain their position at the top of the table.
Celtic are currently top of the league with 28 points from 11 matches, four points ahead of their rivals Rangers in second place, who have 24 points. Hearts sit third with 20 points.
The match holds special significance for Haissem Hassan, who hopes to get more playing time and seize the opportunity to score his first goal for Celtic, ending his streak of not finding the net.
The Egyptian player had moved to Celtic from Real Oviedo during the last summer transfer window, seeking a new experience after catching attention with his skills, speed, dribbling ability, and chance creation.
On the national team front, Haissem Hassan expressed his pride in representing Egypt, considering wearing the national team's jersey a great honor for any player. He also praised the group, which includes several outstanding stars, confirming his enjoyment of playing alongside them.
The player emphasized the importance of the upcoming matches against Malawi, noting that winning both will give the Egyptian national team a chance to take the lead in the group and come a step closer to qualifying for the Africa Cup of Nations 2027.
Haissem Hassan is set to join the Egyptian national team camp after playing two matches with Celtic, the first against Falkirk today, Sunday, and the second against Beşiktaş on Thursday, as part of the European competitions.
