Manchester City lead race to sign Borussia Dortmund talent
Manchester City lead the race to sign 17-year-old winger Mathis Albert from Borussia Dortmund, with competition from Chelsea and other European clubs, according to TEAMtalk.
Manchester City have made an official inquiry to sign the player last summer and are preparing to make an enticing financial offer. Meanwhile, Chelsea had previously expressed their willingness to pay around €20 million for him, while Paris Saint-Germain inquired about him in the summer of 2025, and Arsenal and Liverpool are also monitoring his situation.
Borussia Dortmund are refusing to part ways with Albert, insisting on his continued presence in their first-team plans despite limited appearances this season. The player joined the German club from the Los Angeles Galaxy academy in 2024.
Albert's contract runs until next June, with Borussia Dortmund preparing an offer to extend it as the player seeks more playing opportunities. The Premier League rules do not allow for a permanent deal before he turns 18 in May.
The source believes that Manchester City is in a better position to secure the deal if Borussia Dortmund changes its stance, especially if the player's limited participation continues until next summer.
