Basim Qasim challenges the storm after falling to Al-Shorta
Following their defeat in the capital derby and their third consecutive loss against Al-Shorta in the Iraq Stars League, Al Zawraa's management and players issued strong and responsible statements reflecting the immense pressure they are under. However, these statements also carry messages of determination and challenge to correct the course and reorganize matters at the blue fortress.
Al Zawraa's coach Bassim Qasim defended his team's performance despite the loss, stating in press remarks after the match: "I believe the team delivered a remarkable game today and showed clear competitiveness at many times. Despite the bitterness of the defeat and the succession of negative results, I am not a defeatist coach at all and I will not resign from coaching the team."
Qassem added, speaking with absolute confidence: "I am completely sure of myself and the capabilities of the group in the near future, as we have the elements capable of correcting mistakes and regaining the winning tone. The current phase does not allow for setbacks, but requires everyone to unite their efforts—management, coaching staff, players, and fans—to overcome this setback and restore Al-Wehdat to their natural position."
He emphasized taking responsibility: "We are working hard and diligently in training sessions, and football by its nature goes through changes and difficult turns. My confidence in the players is limitless, and they are capable of turning the tables and coming back strongly in the upcoming challenges."
Al Zawraa midfielder Sajjad Mohammed Fadhil spoke with emotion and transparency after the match, offering his sincere apologies to the club's esteemed fans, saying: "We sincerely apologize to our loyal fans who attended in large numbers and supported us throughout the minutes of the match passionately. We hoped to make them happy with points from the clásico, but luck and small details were not in our favor."
Sajjad Mohammed Fadhil explained the team's situation: "It is true that we are going through a difficult period and three consecutive defeats have affected our morale, but as players, we fully understand the value of the Al Zawraa shirt and the club's heritage, and we will not allow this decline to continue."
The player concluded his statement with a firm pledge: "We will resolve in the dressing room to review our mistakes and correct them with utmost seriousness, and we promise our dear fans that we will exert double the effort and fight in the upcoming matches to return to the path of victories and reconcile with our supporters."
These words reflect the great responsibility felt by Al Zawraa's camp amid the current storm. This comes in light of the decline in performance and level.
