The Argentine star Julián Alvarez has apologised to Atlético Madrid fans after guiding the team to a 1-0 victory over Deportivo La Coruña in the match that took place yesterday as part of the tenth round of LaLiga.
Julián Alvarez has apologised following the controversy sparked by his comments during the FIFA World Cup 2026, in which he expressed his desire to leave Atlético to pursue his dream of joining Barcelona, angering the Madrid team's fans.
Julián Alvarez stated in remarks to Movistar: "I wanted to apologize to our fans for the comments I made during the FIFA World Cup. They were a mistake, both in terms of how I spoke and the timing of the comments. I completely understand why the fans are angry, and if I were a supporter, I would be angry too."
He added: "I apologize, especially since the fans have given me great support and have been very generous with me, and I appreciate that a lot. I also want to thank my teammates, as they have supported me throughout this period."
Argentinian forward Julián Alvarez spoke about his physical and technical condition, saying: "I feel a gradual improvement, and I am grateful to all my teammates for their support. I am working to develop, and I felt better in the recent matches, both physically and in handling the ball, and I want to help the team and give my best."
He continued: "When you are in a good personal state, it reflects on the pitch. Even though we are professionals, everything affects us. I feel good and ready to compete for all the titles."
Alvarez concluded his statements by saying: "I hope that through hard work and humility, I can change this situation and regain everyone's trust."
