Rodri: Barcelona's key to controlling the Clasico against Real Madrid

FC Barcelona are counting on Rodri's role in controlling the rhythm of the upcoming clash against Real Madrid on Sunday in La Liga's tenth round, given the midfielder's experience and leadership qualities that the team needs in the clásico.

According to the Spanish newspaper "Mundo Deportivo", Rodri has become a key player in FC Barcelona's midfield since joining the team, thanks to his vision on the pitch, tactical intelligence, and physical strength, after choosing the Catalan club over Real Madrid, following the persuasion of Deco and Hans Flick regarding the team's sporting project.

Rodri leads two statistics for FC Barcelona in La Liga, having completed 613 passes and recorded 11 interceptions. He is also the midfielder with the most passes in the competition, despite missing the first round and only fully participating in three of the following eight matches.

Rodri's importance is highlighted by his ability to help FC Barcelona deal with set pieces, having scored his first goal for the team with a header against Real Betis. The player also calls for enhancing possession and avoiding the constant shift to exchanging attacks, in order to reduce defensive risks and maintain a balance between attack and defense.

Rodri had previously clarified in an interview with "Mundo Deportivo" that his decision to join FC Barcelona was for sporting reasons, affirming that the Catalan club represents the best environment for his development and achieving his ambitions, especially under the current generation of players led by Flick.

The newspaper pointed out that Rodri's ability to control the rhythm of the match will be an important factor against Real Madrid, who are adept at exploiting spaces thanks to Kylian Mbappé's speed and Diomande, alongside the movements of Jude Bellingham and Arda Güler. Therefore, FC Barcelona needs to maintain their balance and adhere to the midfielder's instructions to avoid giving their opponent opportunities to exploit.
