Historic clash expected between Flick and Mourinho in the clásico
Hans Flick, the coach of FC Barcelona, is preparing for his first encounter against José Mourinho in the history of Clasico matches, when the two teams meet next Sunday at Spotify Camp Nou. This match carries a special significance between two coaches who have only faced each other once during their coaching careers.
The previous meeting between the coaches took place during the 2019-2020 season, when Flick was in charge of Bayern Munich and Mourinho was managing Tottenham. The match, held at the Allianz Arena, ended with the German team winning 3-1, thanks to goals from Kingsley Coman, Thomas Müller, and Philippe Coutinho, on Bayern's path to achieving the historic sextuple that season.
Flick enters the clash with an impressive record against Real Madrid, having achieved six wins and just one defeat in his previous matches against the royal team. Four of his victories have resulted in FC Barcelona lifting the Supercopa de España twice in the 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 seasons, the Copa del Rey in the 2024-2025 season, and LaLiga in the 2025-2026 season. The German coach has also outperformed Carlo Ancelotti four times and has secured victories over both Xabi Alonso and Álvaro Arbeloa.
In contrast, Jose Mourinho faced FC Barcelona 17 times during his first spell with Real Madrid from 2010 to 2013, achieving five wins, six draws, and six defeats. This period witnessed historic encounters, most notably FC Barcelona's thrashing 5-0 victory in LaLiga during the 2010-2011 season, alongside the heated clashes between the two teams in the UEFA Champions League semi-finals during the same season.
The upcoming clásico gains importance as both teams are positioned in the LaLiga standings. FC Barcelona, led by Thomas Tuchel, tops the table with a perfect record, while Real Madrid, managed by José Mourinho, sits in third place, six points behind their Catalan rivals. This adds extra significance to the encounter in the title race.
