Al-Shamal make history with a goal to beat Al Zawraa in the league
Al-Shamal secured a historic and deserved victory over Al Zawraa with a goal to nil in the match held at Newroz Stadium in Sulaymaniyah, as part of the tenth round of the Iraqi Premier League, marking the first chapter in the history of encounters between the two teams.
Al-Shamal entered the match with a clear plan, focusing on an organized defensive block in their own areas, completely closing down spaces in front of Al Zawraa's playmakers, and relying on quick counter-attacks.
Mujtaba Ali scored the only goal of the match in the 18th minute, giving the lead to the sons of Kirkuk amid great joy.
In the second half, Al Zawraa tried to make a quick comeback, exerting absolute control and pressing with all their lines under the direct instructions of their coach, Mujtaba Ali, who introduced several attacking options.
Al Zawraa had numerous clear chances, the most notable being a powerful shot that Al-Shamal's goalkeeper excelled in saving. However, a lack of focus in the final touch and the impressive defending of Al-Shamal prevented the equaliser.
Al-Shamal nearly doubled their lead on two occasions with quick counterattacks, but the score remained unchanged until the final whistle.
With this crucial victory, Al-Shamal have moved up to eleven points in 13th place, distancing themselves from the relegation zone and proving to be a tough opponent for everyone.
While Al Zawraa remain on eighteen points in fourth place, they fail to advance towards the top and suffer a painful defeat ahead of the anticipated capital derby against Al-Shamal in the eleventh round.
