Manchester United renews interest in signing Branthwaite
Manchester United renew their interest in signing Jarrad Branthwaite, the Everton defender, during the upcoming winter transfer window, amid the possibility of Argentine Lisandro Martínez leaving, according to TEAMtalk.
Tensions have escalated between Martínez and Manchester United management after the 28-year-old defender criticized the club for failing to strengthen the squad during the summer. Jason Wilcox, the director of football, was the focus of his criticisms.
Reports from "The Guardian" and "The Athletic" indicate that Martínez is inclined to leave and does not wish to activate the clause to extend his contract for another year, opening the door for his departure in January or the summer of 2027.
The Daily Mail has reported that Manchester United are reconsidering a move for Jarrad Branthwaite after Everton rejected several offers for him in the summer of 2024. Journalist Graeme Bailey revealed that communication has resumed between the club and representatives of the 24-year-old defender.
Everton are asking for £80 million to part with Jarrad Branthwaite, a fee that would see him equal Harry Maguire as the world's most expensive defenders if the deal goes through. At the same time, Manchester United are looking to sign a left-back and have identified Frenchman Adrien Truffert, a Bournemouth player, as one of their options after failing to strengthen this position during the summer.
