Paulo Zanetti the leading candidate to replace Stroppa at Venezia

Venezia are considering the possibility of sacking their coach Giovani Stroppa after a disastrous start to the season in Serie A, while Paolo Zanetti emerges as the leading candidate to take over should a decision be made to part ways with the current coach, according to Sky Sport Italia.

The latest defeat against Atalanta by a score of 3-1 at the Gewiss Stadium has increased the pressure on Stroppa, as he has failed to lead the team to any victory in the first six matches of the season. Venezia has now endured six consecutive losses and sits at the bottom of the table with no points.

Venezia's management had renewed their trust in Stroppa after the fifth round, giving him the opportunity to use the international break to improve the team's performance. However, the loss to Atalanta has brought the coach's future back into question, as he is likely to get one last chance during the upcoming home match against Napoli, before a final decision is made regarding his future.

If Stroppa is dismissed, Paulo Zanetti will be the first choice to succeed him, having been without a club since February 2026, following the end of his last experience with Hellas Verona. Zanetti previously managed Venezia between 2020 and 2022, leading them to promotion to Serie A in 2021, before being sacked in April 2022 during a season that ended with the team relegated to Serie B.
