Jaid Spence: I put everything in God's hands, and my family is my strength
Good Spence, the Inter Milan full-back, spoke about aspects of his personal life and his approach to preparing for matches during an interview with British GQ, addressing how he deals with pressure, the role of faith and family in his life, alongside the speed that is one of his standout attributes on the pitch.
Spence has confirmed that he no longer feels nervous before matches as he did in the past, explaining that he stopped feeling this way almost when he turned 18. He added that he prefers to describe what he feels as energy rather than anxiety, noting that he tries to stay in his own zone before games so as not to be affected by the surrounding feelings of anxiety within the team.
The Inter full-back spoke about the importance of prayer in his life, explaining that he turns to it before matches and whenever he feels the need. He may repeat it in the changing room. He noted that prayer gives him a sense of guidance and reassurance, affirming that he leaves matters in God's hands and does not bear the responsibility for everything that happens alone.
Spence emphasized the significant role his family plays in his life, revealing that he has three sisters whom he considers his closest friends. He explained that they spend a lot of time together, whether during holidays or when going out to eat, affirming that their relationship is very strong and that he speaks to them almost daily.
Spence concluded his remarks by discussing his speed, which he considers one of his key strengths in football, explaining that he believes it is a hereditary trait passed down through his family. He mentioned that his father, uncles, and grandfather also possessed speed, indicating that this attribute is not solely a product of training, but has familial roots.
