Reports: Possible sanctions against Hossam and Ibrahim Hassan after Argentina crisis

Reports suggest that FIFA is close to imposing sanctions on Hossam Hassan, the head coach of the Egypt national team, and his brother Ibrahim Hassan, the team's director, following the events after the Pharaohs' match against Argentina in the FIFA World Cup 2026.

FIFA has opened separate disciplinary proceedings against several members of the coaching staff and players of the Egyptian national team following the incidents and statements that followed the match against Argentina.

Hossam Hassan, Ibrahim Hassan, and striker Mostafa Ziko have been included in the measures due to allegations related to fair play principles and questioning the integrity of officiating, as well as statements deemed damaging to the reputation of the competition.

The Egyptian Football Association has confirmed its full commitment to FIFA regulations, stating that it has submitted legal documents to FIFA within the specified deadlines to defend the rights of the coaching staff and players.

The Egyptian regulations expert Amer Al-Amayra stated that the FIFA World Cup Disciplinary Committee investigated the incidents of the match between Egypt and Argentina, concluding that there are grounds to punish Hossam Hassan and Ibrahim Hassan.

Al-Amayra explained that the accusations against the duo could lead to a suspension ranging from two to eight matches, while Mostafa Ziko faces a potential four-match ban due to his statements regarding officiating and competition integrity.

According to the report, the FIFA disciplinary committee is expected to announce official sanctions in the coming days, clarifying the consequences of the events during the match between Egypt and Argentina.

Hossam Hassan and Ibrahim Hassan have received suspensions ranging from 2 to 8 matches.
