AFC highlights Al-Dawsari's ambitions to win AFC Asian Cup 2027

The AFC has highlighted the ambitions of Salem Al-Dawsari, captain of the Saudi national team, ahead of the country's hosting of the AFC Asian Cup 2027, in a renewed attempt to reclaim the continental title that has been absent for 30 years.

The upcoming edition holds special significance for Al-Dawsari, as it may be his fourth and final participation in the AFC Asian Cup, while the player, who won the AFC Player of the Year award in 2022 and 2025, continues his search for the title.

Salem Al-Dawsari has been linked to only one club, Al-Hilal, since progressing through the youth academy and reaching the first team in 2010, before making his international debut against Australia in 2012.

The captain of the Green scored 26 international goals, including his goal against Argentina in the FIFA World Cup 2022, while winning six league titles and two AFC Champions League titles with Al-Hilal.

Salem Al-Dawsari has played 10 matches in the AFC Asian Cup editions of 2015, 2019, and 2023, scoring a single goal. He is aiming with Saudi Arabia, three-time AFC Asian Cup champions, to end a 30-year wait and lift the trophy again.
