Arnold crisis ignites in Iraq after shock exit from Gulf Cup 27

The draw resulted in Oman advancing to the next round, while Iraq was eliminated from the competition.

Sources indicate that Iraq coach Graham Arnold does not have the support and confidence of several members of the Iraqi Football Association, especially after the loss to Saudi Arabia and the early exit from the AFC Asian Cup. They did not expect this scenario, as they were counting on the coach to at least secure a draw and ensure qualification for the next round.

Iraqi federation members believe that Graham Arnold's management of the match was unsuccessful, and they noted his player selections, considering that he made significant mistakes during the encounter.

It has been noted that the voices calling for his dismissal have begun to rise, especially with the federation moving towards evaluating the coach's work during his participation in the Gulf Cup, and considering the anticipated scenarios for upcoming commitments.

Sources indicate that there is a significant inclination among many members of the Iraqi Football Association's executive office to seek a replacement for Graham Arnold as head coach. More than half of the executive office members do not wish for his continuation and believe it is necessary to look for another option to lead the team in the AFC Asian Cup.

Younis Mahmoud, the president of the Iraqi Football Federation, emphasized the importance of conducting a comprehensive evaluation of Iraq's participation in the Gulf Cup 27, alongside studying Graham Arnold's management of the three matches. He confirmed that he does not want to make any decisions based on reactions. It was clarified that all proposals will be discussed before making the appropriate decision regarding Arnold's continuation with the Iraqi national team.

During the AFC Asian Cup 27, Iraq collected 4 points from one win against Kuwait, a draw with Oman, and a loss to Saudi Arabia, while the Lions of Mesopotamia scored 4 goals and conceded 5 goals over 3 matches.
