Cristiano Ronaldo said in an official statement: "After the press conference of the national team coach, and after my conversation with the president of the Portuguese Football Federation, I decided to leave the national team camp."

He added: "At the right time, I will explain to all the people of Portugal the true reasons that led me to leave the national team, to which I have always dedicated myself."

The captain of the Portugal national team concluded his message by saying: "Now, it is time for me to wish good luck to Portugal and all my teammates, without exception."
