Tension within Portugal squad due to Cristiano Ronaldo as Portuguese FA president intervenes

Tension arose in the Portugal camp following their 2-1 victory over Norway in the UEFA Nations League due to captain Cristiano Ronaldo's absence from the match, despite head coach Jorge Jesus hinting at the possibility of bringing him on in the second half.

RMC Sport reported that Cristiano Ronaldo's absence caused a long and tense day within the Portuguese Football Federation, with intervention from the federation's president, Pedro Proença, who attended the national team's camp to help contain the situation.

Cristiano Ronaldo remained on the bench throughout the match against Norway, a rare occurrence for him, before heading straight to the dressing room after the final whistle instead of joining his teammates to greet the Portugal fans.

Jorge Jesus revealed after the match that he was indeed considering bringing on Cristiano Ronaldo for half an hour, but he felt that the flow of the game was not suitable for that. He explained: "I was thinking of bringing him on for half an hour, but the match dictated other things, and I didn't think the time was right to introduce him."

According to the report, Cristiano Ronaldo did not accept the decision of not participating, and confronted Jesus inside the camp due to the failure to adhere to what had been agreed upon regarding his participation in the last 30 minutes of the match.

Reports indicate that the confrontation between the two parties occurred during lengthy discussions within the national team camp, before the meeting ended positively, with efforts to resolve the disagreement and maintain focus on the upcoming phase.
