Al-Buraikan rescues Al Ahly from defeat against Pakhtakor
Al Ahly FC salvaged a shocking defeat against Pakhtakor, finishing the match in a 1-1 draw on Monday evening in their AFC Champions League Elite opener.
Al Ahly FC had a clear advantage during the first half, threatening the guests' goal on multiple occasions, but squandered many opportunities, resulting in a goalless first half.
Al Ahly FC continued to press after the break in search of a goal to take the lead, but Pakhtakor capitalized on one of their attacks, with Flamarion scoring the opener in the 86th minute.
Al Ahly FC looked set to suffer a painful defeat at home and in front of their fans before Firas Al-Buraikan stepped up in the dying moments and found the net against Pakhtakor in the 93rd minute.
Firas Al-Buraikan's goal brought Al Ahly FC back into the match at the death, earning the team a point as they began their AFC Champions League Elite campaign instead of leaving empty-handed.
Al Ahly FC entered the current edition as the defending champion of the AFC Champions League Elite in the last two editions, under the management of German coach Matthias Jaissle.
Al Ahly FC are set to continue their continental journey away from home, facing Al Wasl on October 12, in the second round of the AFC Champions League Elite.
