The Korea Football Association announced today, Tuesday, the appointment of Spanish Robert Moreno as the interim coach of the national team, succeeding Hong Myung-bo.

Moreno, 48, will take charge of the South Korea national team for six international matches during the international breaks in September and November, under a contract that runs until November 27, with the possibility of extending it until the AFC Asian Cup 2027 in Saudi Arabia, depending on the team's results.

Moreno will begin his mission against Ecuador on September 24, followed by Uruguay on September 28, and Venezuela on October 2, as well as two friendly matches during the international break in November.

The Spanish coach has previous experience with the Spanish national team, having temporarily led it in 2019. He has also managed AS Monaco, Granada, and Russian side Sochi.

The appointment of Moreno comes after Hong Myung-bo's resignation following South Korea's exit from the group stage of the FIFA World Cup 2026, while the Korean Football Association plans to make a decision on a permanent coach before the end of the year.
