Ounahi Moves Closer to Ajax as Girona Approves Amsterdam Trip
Moroccan international Azzedine Ounahi has taken a significant step towards securing his future during the current summer transfer window, as Girona FC has agreed to allow the player to travel to the Dutch capital, Amsterdam, to initiate negotiations with Ajax regarding a potential transfer to their squad.
Dutch site ‘Football Primer’ revealed that Girona's management has given Onahi the green light to travel to Amsterdam, amid ongoing uncertainty regarding his next destination, with several clubs interested in securing his services during the summer transfer window.
Ajax is looking to capitalize on their prior knowledge of coach Michel Sanchez to finalize the transfer deal, as the Spanish manager previously oversaw Onahi during his time at Girona, a period in which the Moroccan player showcased strong performances despite the team's relegation.
Ajax isn't the only club interested in securing the signature of Azzedine Onahi. The Moroccan international has also been linked with a move to English clubs Hull City and Ipswich Town, alongside Saudi Arabian side Al-Ittihad.
Earlier reports indicated that PSV Eindhoven was interested in the player, but Dutch sources have denied any actual move from the Dutch club to sign him.
Girona is looking to capitalize financially on Onahi's departure as part of their plan to ease the wage bill. However, the financial compensation that the Spanish club will demand for relinquishing the player's services has not yet been determined.
